6 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Choosing Your Bridal Party

Choosing your bridal party is no party. It's hard to please everyone! You want to include all the ladies in your life that you love, but where do you draw the line? Who is an obvious choice and who is a questionable choice? We're here to make those inquiries a little easier to answer. When choosing your bridesmaids and maid of honor, ask yourself the following questions. Once you're finished, the bridal party you're trying to envision will be a much clearer image.

1. Are you close to her?

This is the most important question to ask yourself. You should never pick women just to fill up spots — they should be friends and family that you feel a close connection to. If you can talk to her about anything and know that she's a friend for life, those are good signs.

2. Have you seen her in the last year?

If the two of you don't make the effort to see each other regularly, should you be asking her to be deeply involved in your wedding? On the other hand, it's totally understandable to have friends in other states or countries that you have always been close to — that's a different situation. Being separated by distance is often unavoidable. Just make sure they're willing to make the trip for your wedding week!

3. Is she someone that makes you happy?

When you think about hanging out with her, does it stress you out? Your bridesmaids should be women that make you feel supportive and joyous. If your friend is a drama queen or negative Nancy, count her out.

4. Are you asking her just because she asked you?

Just because you were in your friend's wedding doesn't mean you're obligated to put her in yours. Ultimately it's your decision and you may have other people you feel closer to. You can always explain your situation to your friend if you feel like you need to.

5. Is she family?

Whether she's a sister, cousin, or soon-to-be sister, this is an important thing to consider. Family should always come first. Make sure to include (or at least consider) both your and your fiancé's immediate siblings.

6. Is she supportive of your engagement?

It's vital that your bridal party is fully supportive of your future marriage. This is a time to surround yourself with people who are truly happy for your union. Negative comments should be nonexistent. In the end, it's your day!
