This Girl Was Denied Entry to Her Prom For Wearing a Suit Instead of a Formal Dress

"Sadly, I was not admitted into the prom. I was forced to leave. The principal threatened she would get the cops. What an experience," reads a Facebook post from Aniya Wolf, a high school junior who attends Bishop McDevitt, a Catholic School in Pennsylvania.

The post came after she was denied entrance into her school's prom a few weeks ago for violating the formal dress code. No, Aniya wasn't criticized because her dress was too revealing, but rather, because she wasn't wearing a dress at all — she was wearing a suit.

Back in March, every student at Bishop McDevitt received a dress code, which stated prom dresses must be formal but didn't explicitly say that dresses were required. "This is the dress code my mother and I signed, it stated nothing about women wearing suits," Aniya said in another Facebook post. Though she says she loves her school, she doesn't deny that she felt discriminated against on prom night.

In the weeks since the incident, Aniya has received overwhelming support — celebrities have tweeted her, she's been asked to appear on an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and news outlets are covering her story — but perhaps the best thing that's happened was she was sent invite to attend another high school's prom. Looking sharp in her suit, Aniya attended William Penn High School's prom on Saturday in York, PA, and was greeted on her way in by supporters cheering for her.

Aniya said she had a great time.
