To this group of fifth-grade students, every one of them is equal — including Brady Green, who has Down syndrome.

With this mindset of friendship and equality, the students were shocked to learn that their friend could not attend the same middle school in the Fall. Instead of taking no for an answer, the Colorado kids decided to defend Brady by arranging a meeting with the school board.

During their presentation, six children stood in front of a podium explaining why Brady deserves to attend Blevins Middle School. Each kid ended his or presentation with one simple question: "If we can choose to go to Blevins, why can't Brady?"

The 11-year-olds left a major impression on the adults. While Brady's friend Ella described how he lights up the room whenever he's around, his other friend Storm discussed how things have improved since he joined their elementary school two years ago. "He's changed the whole atmosphere of the school. He makes it much better, much more fun to go to school," Storm said. "He has one extra chromosome, and that doesn't really mean anything."

The board members met two weeks later to discuss Brady's case and although they agree with Brady's friends, they left the ultimate decision in the hands of Belvins School's principal. After months of fighting by his family and friends, a final decision was made in the little boy's favor.
