Changing a baby boy's diaper can be an adventure — hence the reason someone invented those pee pee covers. But pee streaming beyond the confines of a Pampers Swaddler doesn't only happen on the changing table. If your little guy has ever had a ring of wetness on his onesie right above his diaper, you know what I'm talking about. You just changed him, there's no way he could have possibly leaked out already?! With little boys, it's all about the penis positioning. A penis pointing up shoots urine up too, and there's nothing to absorb that fluid at the top of a diaper, so it streams right out and onto his clothes.

This was happening to a friend for weeks after her son was born until she'd finally had enough. She emailed a group of mom friends who had boys and, in addition to a few LOLs, she got the advice that saved her sanity and me countless outfit changes between my own two sons: Point the penis down! When changing a baby boy's diaper, use your thumb to point the penis downward and hold it there until both sides of the diaper are fastened. A penis pointing down shoots urine down, right where the diaper is most absorbent.

There you have it, the most seemingly-obvious but incredibly practical parenting tip for little boys. If only there was an equally easy solution for getting them to stop peeing on the toilet seat!
