Watch Sam Bee Demolish Trump's Threat to Defund Sanctuary Cities

Along with a host of headache-inducing mandates, President Donald Trump doubled down on his threat to withhold funding from sanctuary cities . . . and TBS host Samantha Bee came out swinging against the proposal.

So-called sanctuary cities are not, as Fox News suggests, crime-ridden shelters for felons. As Bee points out, sanctuary cities simply don't deport people if they are arrested or stopped for a minor crime (for example, rolling through a stop sign). "Sanctuary cities don't just hand get-out-of-jail free cards to every violent felon with an accent," Bee emphasizes. New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio stresses the same point in a clip Bee airs from MSNBC.

If the president is truly concerned about safety, Bee makes another argument for sanctuary cities: they encourage undocumented immigrants to report crimes since they might not be afraid to alert police.

Sanctuary cities like New York City and San Francisco are also a main source of income for the federal government: 85 percent of America's GDP was generated by the country's metropolises. Bee gleefully questions the president: "Threatening to withhold money from sanctuary cities makes as much sense as Macaulay Culkin's parents trying to dock his allowance."
