After Her Colleague Went on a Sexist Tirade, This Spanish Politician Ripped Him Apart

During a heated debate on gender equality in Brussels, European Parliament member Janusz Korwin-Mikke made a shockingly sexist statement that has since gone viral for all the wrong reasons. Though his comments are difficult to even listen to, it's the rebuttal from Spain's Iratxe Garcia Perez that is giving us hope.

At a session on March 1, the Polish politician argued against equal pay when he said, "Do you know which was the place in the Polish theoretical physics Olympiad, the first place of women, of girls? I can tell you: 800th. Do you know how many women are in the first 100 chess players? I can tell you: not one." He added, "Of course women must earn less than men because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent, and they must earn less. That is all."

Immediately after, Perez defiantly stood up and said, "Look, according to your theory, I should not have the right to be here, as a member of this Parliament — and I know it hurts you. I know it hurts and worries you, that today women can sit in this house and represent European citizens with the same rights as you. I am here to defend all European women from men like you."

According to The Washington Post, Korwin-Mikke is currently under investigation for his disrespectful remarks. He could be reprimanded, fined, or suspended. He had previously been fined in 2014 for using the word "negroes." Then in 2015, he was suspended for referring to immigrants as "human garbage" and using a Nazi salute. He followed up his latest controversy with an enraging tweet, shown below.

Meanwhile, Perez isn't letting the awful exchange slow her down and has continued to fight for equal pay and gender equality. That same day, she met with a group of female politicians to discuss the matter.
