Jonathan Van Ness Teamed Up With Planned Parenthood For a PSA on STI Screenings

Over the weekend, Jonathan Van Ness revealed in an honest interview with The New York Times that he's HIV-positive. The Queer Eye star chose to open up about his status ahead of the release of his new memoir, Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love, and now he's teaming up with Planned Parenthood — where he received his diagnosis seven years ago — to encourage people to get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In addition to that, Van Ness is also calling to protect people's access to STI testing and treatment through Title X, a program that provides affordable reproductive health care and birth control options to people from lower income communities.

"Planned Parenthood provided me with access to STI testing when I didn't have another affordable option and needed it most," the 32-year-old said in a statement. "I was able to get lifesaving referrals and access to medication that have ultimately enabled me to get to where I am today."

Planned Parenthood was forced out of Title X by the Trump administration earlier this year. According to some stats, around four million people in the U.S. depend on Title X. Of that number, Planned Parenthood serves 40 percent. Now, in a PSA that the organization released on Monday, Van Ness is calling on viewers to help protect the program "to make sure everyone can get the sexual healthcare that they deserve."
