Stephen Colbert Points Out Why It's Hard to Believe Trump: "He Lies"

On July 7, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin officially met for the first time at the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. Following the leaders' highly publicized meeting, it was reported that they met another time for an undisclosed, hour-long conversation. Though the second meeting has been downplayed by the White House, Stephen Colbert explained why he's having a hard time believing what he's hearing.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert spoke about the meeting in a recent on-air monologue. At the top of the segment, Colbert presented an analogy to illustrate the president's poor decision. He said, "People think you colluded with the president of a hostile foreign power, then you're going to go out of your way to meet with him again and you don't tell anybody?" He added, "That's like if O.J. [Simpson] does get out on parole and immediately goes glove shopping."

In addition to disputing the length of the meeting, the White House also addressed the belief that Trump and Putin were attempting to hide the meeting's existence. The statement read, "The insinuation that the White House has tried to 'hide' a second meeting is false, malicious, and absurd." Upon hearing that, Colbert gave Trump his reelection campaign slogan: "Trump 2020: False, Malicious, and Absurd."

Ultimately, Colbert explained why he just can't believe Trump and the White House on this one: "Here's why it's hard to believe him: he lies about everything. He lies about crowd size, voter fraud, till death do us part. He's the boy who cried, 'Wolf Blitzer is fake news.'" Watch his snide takedown above.
