How 1 Museum Is Bringing Art to Your Phone — For Free

In 2017, there's almost nothing that can't be done from the comfort of your own home. We can shop for groceries in our pajamas, order flowers without going to the store, and even get in shape without stepping foot in a gym. Now, thanks to an awesome new service from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, we can get the full museum experience without ever leaving the couch. "Send Me," the museum's latest project, gives anyone with a cell phone access to millions of unique modern art pieces. And the best part? You get to choose what you want to see. All you need to do is "Text 572-51 with the words 'send me' followed by a keyword, a color, or even an emoji and you'll receive a related artwork image and caption via text message," as described on the museum's website. "For example 'send me the ocean' might get you Pirkle Jones' 'Breaking Wave, Golden Gate'; 'send me something blue' could result in 'Éponge (SE180)' by Yves Klein."

"In a world oversaturated with information, we asked ourselves: how can we generate personal connections between a diverse cross section of people and the artworks in our collection?" Jay Mollica, the museum's creative technologist, wrote. "How can we provide a more comprehensive experience of our collection?"

With such a huge collection of artwork, the museum hopes that the texting service will show people the art they actually care to see. Plus, it's a pretty incredible service — even for those who aren't big on museums. Check out some of the exchanges people have had with the museum thus far below, and don't wait another moment before trying the service out for yourself.
