There's Something So Comforting About Christina Aguilera Bringing Back Her 2000s Hair

Rich Polk | E! Entertainment / NBC

Amid a resurgence in all sorts of 2000s trends, Christina Aguilera's streaky skunk highlights have made their return. The pop legend recently performed a medley of her greatest hits at the 2021 People's Choice Awards, where she was also awarded with the first-ever music icon award. For the occasion, Aguilera brought back her Stripped-era hair color: bright blond with black extensions sprinkled throughout.

Styled by Iggy Rosales, Aguilera's hair was worn half-up, half-down with a high ponytail and a few tiny braids. The entire hair look evoked Aguilera's iconic 2002 video for "Dirrty," and her performance outfit was also an homage, consisting of a black and yellow corset bodysuit with matching chaps.

Aguilera was humble about her impact on pop culture in her acceptance speech. "To be standing here receiving an award with the word 'icon' is truly surreal," she said. "My music has always been for the fighters in this world . . . Thank you for your stories, thank you for listening, and thank you for fighting."
