The Magicians has officially come to an end. On Wednesday night, the series wrapped up its fifth and final season in an action-packed finale. With Fillory collapsing in on itself, the group uses a magical seed to create a new world for everyone to be transported to. It mostly goes off without a hitch, but there are a few complications along the way. Julia's water breaks and she goes into labor, the Beast comes back from the dead to wreak havoc, and Margo sacrifices herself to turn back the clock in Fillory.
While some of our favorite characters got happy endings, other characters' fates were left up in the air — which makes sense, since the writers were unsure of whether they would be coming back for another season when they filmed the episode. Keep reading to see where your favorite characters ended up ahead.
As Margo turns back the clock in Fillory and waits to die, Penny (who has just regained his psychic abilities) swoops in at the last minute to save her. She returns to Earth in time to help Fen, Alice, and Josh create a new Fillory with the seed. The episode ends with the four enjoying their new world and getting ready to release the citizens of Fillory from the ark.
After keeping the seed safe, Fen helps Alice, Josh, and Margot create a new Fillory by describing her past memories. However, instead of making Fillory exactly the same, she decides to make it even better by including the best parts of Fillory and Earth.
With only one good hand to cast magic, Alice helps Margot, Josh, and Fen perform a spell to create a new Fillory. After getting transported during the spell, the four enjoy their new world — which now includes knife trees and fields of bacon — before releasing the citizens of Fillory from the ark.
After reconciling with Margot, Josh helps Fen, Alice, and Margot create a new Fillory with the seed. When they are transported to the new world, he is especially excited about all the pizza ovens.
After Dean Fogg cuts Julia's connection to her child, the chord is eventually reattached to Penny, which in turn restores his psychic abilities. The end of the episode shows Penny and Julia traveling with their child to find the rest of their friends in the new Fillory.
Following complications in labor, Julia gives birth to a baby girl, who she names Hope Quentin. Julia and Penny eventually raise their child together as they set out to find their friends in the new Fillory.
In an interesting turn of events, we learn that Eliot has actually joined the faculty at Brakebills. As he tries to cope with losing half of his friends, he grows even closer with Charlton and the two decide to turn their friendship into something more by sharing a kiss.
Kady eventually rises as the new leader of the Hedge Witches as she works with Pete and a moonbrain to restore the balance of magic.
After getting out of the Etheric Realm, Dean Fogg goes a little mad. However, he is able to calm his nerves by holding a cat that will in turn "hold all of his crazy." As Eleanor puts it, Dean Fogg is basically a Bond villain come to life now.
When the Beast shows up in the library, Zelda tries to hold him off so that Alice and Fen can escape through the portal and get back to Earth. She then initiates "permafrost" so that the Beast can't use the rest of the portals to escape. Although she stops the Beast from getting lose, he eventually kills her.
