Olivia Taylor Dudley Is Afraid of Singing
"Singing is a really big fear of mine," Dudley said at San Diego Comic Con in 2018. "And, it's something I always secretly wanted to do. And, because of people like John McNamara, I get to do that. And I have no choice but to do that on the show."
Everybody Thinks Penny Would Be Sorted Into Slytherin
When asked what Hogwarts house each character of the show would be in at San Diego Comic Con in 2019, the audience passionately shouted that Penny would be in Slytherin. Jade Tailor agreed and stated, "Penny would definitely be in Slytherin."
Jason Ralph’s Favorite Backstage Moment Involved Lint Rollers
"There [was] a terrific time on set when Trevor Einhorn, who plays Josh, he and I got our hands on lint rollers and for whatever reason it became really important to make sure that before anyone went on set they got lint rolled," Ralph said at San Diego Comic Con in 2018. "And so, you kind of had to go through like the security sweep of being lint rolled. And, for whatever reason, that was a real hit that day."
Alice Would Be a Classical Song
When asked what tune each character of The Magicians would be at San Diego Comic Con in 2019, Dudley said, "Alice would be some sort of really complex classical song that nobody would listen to after 20 minutes."
Jason Ralph Does Touch-Ups
Ralph sometimes helped with the cast's hair and makeup touch-ups when on set. "My mom's a hairstylist so it's sort of in my blood," Ralph said at San Diego Comic Con in 2018.
Summer Bishil Has a Favorite Line
Bishil's favorite epic, laugh out loud one-liner on the show is from season two. It's when she says, "I'm going to shove my Jimmy Choos so far up your ass you're going to taste next season," to Prince Ess, Bishil told No Ordinary Nerd.
Hale Appleman Initially Auditioned For a Different Role
Appleman originally auditioned for the role of Penny on The Magicians. After telling his best friend, Anthony Carrigan, about the audition, Carrigan recommended reading the book series. After flunking his Penny audition, Appleman continued to read the books and fell in love with Eliot Waugh. About three weeks later, he got called back and the rest is history.
Appleman Took Home a Vest and a Pair of Pants
Appleman said at Wizard World Philadelphia in 2019 that he took a few items from the set. He kept an "off-pink, kind of lavender vest" and a pair of pants similar to the ones he wore in the end of season one of The Magicians. He also mentioned that he would like to keep the "very open, beautiful, velvet, black, gown robe" that had "gold piping on it" that he wore in season three. Underneath it he wore a very bedazzled red and gold smock.
Ralph’s Exit From the Show Was Planned
It may have felt abrupt, but the decision to kill Quentin Coldwater happened at the end of season three. "We felt like this character's journey was coming to an end," executive producer John McNamara told The Hollywood Reporter. "I could feel it in my bones and Jason felt the same way. Quentin came in with a very specific purpose and a very specific set of life goals and challenges, and in a way, I'm not sure what we would have done with the character had he lived. It felt like the major question in his life is, 'Is my life truly worth living? Was it a good thing that I didn't succeed in killing myself at 15 or 18?' He now has that answer: he mattered to these other people, and their lives are never going to be the same for knowing him."
Brittany Curran Is a Big Fan of The Good Place's Chidi
Curran is a superfan of Chidi on The Good Place. She freaked out when she found out that someone from the show was going to be on the TV Guide Magazine's annual Fan Favorites panel at SDCC in 2019 with her, and when she that "someone" was William Jackson Harper, who plays Chidi, she DM'd the moderator, Damian, in all caps saying "OH MY GOD, I'M GOING TO BE ON A PANEL WITH CHIDI!" In response, Damian replied asking Curran if she wanted to sit next to him, to which she replied, "Duh."
