In teaching his kids at home, James Corden has learned a lot. Like many parents right now, the late-night talk-show host had to become a homeschool teacher seemingly overnight, and though the added family time is special, it's also . . . really hard. "It's a nightmare," James recently said in a virtual Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance. "It adds like 25 layers of stress."
"It's recess. Daddy needs a drink."
James is primarily having a tough time helping his oldest child, 9-year-old Max, with homework. "It's hard to know who's being homeschooled — whether it's me or my son," he said. "I find myself going, 'Wow, I did not know that.'" James then admitted to resorting to an ill-advised but deeply relatable tactic: "I find myself — and this is deeply irresponsible — going, 'You know what, Max? Honestly, you're not gonna need any of this in life.'" He later added, "'We've always got a calculator. You don't need to know this. Do you know what? It's recess. Daddy needs a drink.'"
His comments echo what Jennifer Lopez recently said about homeschooling, also on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Honestly, I think we're all like, what is this? I'm not a teacher, and also, have you seen the math that they make the kids do now? It's a new math," she said. "It's been an experience, for sure."
