For a solemn visit to the Somme Centenary commemorations at the Thiepval Memorial on Thursday, Kate Middleton was appropriately polished. Even her long waves were wrapped in a tight chignon at the nape of her neck and topped with a black pillbox hat. The hat, in fact, is the ladylike piece that stole the show — even when met with a zigzag printed Missoni coat and oversize pearls.
