Serena Williams Took a Typical Tennis Skirt and Smashed It, Rocking a Lavender Tutu at the US Open

Not all superheroes wear capes — some wear tutus. On Wednesday night, Serena Williams stunned on the court during the second round of the 2018 US Open, dominating Germany's Carina Witthoeft to advance to the third round. Her applause-worthy serve and accuracy were no surprise to fans and tennis-lovers alike, but Serena sporting a lavender tutu like the queen she is had just about everyone praising her look.

Since the French Open announced that Serena wouldn't be able to wear her signature black catsuit during the tournament, the 23-time Grand Slam Champion — who is no stranger to an iconic comeback — retorted in the best way possible: with tutus. She has been rocking gorgeous, custom looks from Off-White founder Virgil Abloh's collaboration with Nike, combining chicness with athleticwear in a way that only Serena could pull off (although don't judge me if I try to as well). During the first round, Serena wore the same tutu and fishnet ensemble in black, with Virgil's signature "LOGO" embellishments and a custom "SERENA" detail on the wrist.

Read on to see the photos of Serena's iconic tournament look, and stay tuned to see what she rocks when she takes on sister Venus on Friday during round three.
