Ingredient Causes a Mass Recall of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey

College students worldwide are about to have a meltdown. Fireball cinnamon whiskey, a go-to shooter for new and experienced drinkers alike, has been recalled in Finland, Sweden, and Norway due to propylene glycol content. This chemical, which is also an ingredient in antifreeze and e-cigarettes, is more highly regulated in Europe than in the United States. When a shipment of American Fireball (which contains far more of the chemical) found its way onto Northern European shelves, officials ordered a recall of the whiskey.

In the United States, propylene glycol is allowed in food products by the FDA, which explains why the American product has a higher amount of it. However, according to a Fireball spokesperson, the cinnamon drink only contains an eighth of the permitted amount and is safe to drink.
