A Ball Pit, Costume Room, and Vagina Tunnel: Inside Cara Delevingne's "Mad Hatter" Home

Laure Joliet | Architectural Digest

Cara Delevingne is having the best time. Abiding by wise words shared often by her mother — "If you're bored, you're boring" — the model and actress let various visions loose while filling up her white-brick Los Angeles home, which she gave a tour of in the July/August 2021 issue of Architectural Digest.

Described as an "adult playhouse," Cara's abode has all sorts of wild amenities, including a costume cupboard, a poker room, a hat wall, a ball pit, several arcade games, and a secret "vagina tunnel" leading from one room to another. "Every room has a different theme, but again I feel the theme of this is a Mad Hatter's tea party," Cara said. Some of the other themes: the jungle, English countryside, Beverly Hills Hotel, and, naturally, Los Angeles itself.

Cara Delevingne's Front Porch

Lion statues and a blue door greet guests at Cara's home, which was built in the 1940s.

Cara Delevingne's Entryway

Like her friend and fellow model Kendall Jenner, Cara owns a light art piece by James Turrell. "I just tend to stand in front of it and stare at it," Cara said. "But don't stay too long because you might start to hallucinate."

Cara Delevingne's Sitting Room

This swan backdrop is one of the many Gucci wallpapers that adorn Cara's home. She said, "You'll see a continuation of that around the house."

"I really love the latticework," Cara said. "It reminds me of being outside."

Cara Delevingne's Kitchen

Cara's kitchen is painted in the shade California Blue by Benjamin Moore: "It's one of my favorite colors."

Behind this black-and-gold cabinet is a built-in rotisserie, which Cara admitted she's yet to use. "It will hopefully one day be used when I am able to get my family here for Christmas," she said.

Cara Delevingne's Dining Room

Whereas the home was originally very black and white, Cara brightened up the dining room with yellows and purples.

Because of the hard floors, Cara said she'll often use a mini scooter to get around. She added, "That sounds so spoiled, and I know it is."

Cara Delevingne's Living Room

Cara said this living room is typically used to play games.

A clear Wurlitzer piano also resides in the living room.

There's also a Playboy pinball machine. "This kind of feels like my Playboy mansion," Cara said.

Cara worked with architect Nicolò Bini, who also designed her prior home with sister Poppy Delevingne. "I would say if I was Alice in Wonderland, he would be the Mad Hatter," she said.

Cara Delevingne's Vagina Tunnel

One of Cara and Nicolò's more eccentric collaborations? This "vagina tunnel" that is really a secret passageway into the guest bedroom.

"I come in here to think. I come in here to create," Cara said. "I feel inspired in the vagina tunnel."

Voila! Here's Cara and her dog Leo exiting the vagina tunnel.

Cara Delevingne's Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom conveniently has bunk beds for several friends who might want to stay over.

Cara Delevingne's Foyer

A Chanel surfboard and yet another Gucci wallpaper adorn this hallway. "If I were to go surfing, I would only surf with Chanel, for sure," Cara said.

Cara Delevingne's Bowie-Themed Bathroom

"This is my favorite bathroom in the house," Cara said of this guest bathroom that also doubles as a shrine to the late David Bowie.

Shown here is artwork inspired by Bowie's iconic Aladdin Sane album-cover look.

Fun fact: Cara collects Japanese puzzle boxes, a few of which are on display in the guest bathroom. "If anyone ever wants an idea for a present for me," she said, "that's what I should receive."

Cara Delevingne's Bedroom

"Every time I walk in here, I feel calm again," Cara said of her glamorous bedroom.

Lion pillows sit atop Cara's bed. In fact, Cara has a lion tattoo on her right pointer finger.

A "lovely bouquet of vagina flowers" can be seen on the glass coffee table in Cara's bedroom.

Cara Delevingne's Outdoor Breakfast Nook

Cara described this outdoor nook outside her bedroom as a "garden sanctuary," complete with lemon and orange trees. "This is an extremely peaceful area for me. It's where I sit in the morning if I need a script to read or something I need to get done," she said.

Cara Delevingne's Closet

Cara's closet is as fun and sparkly as the rest of the home.

Cara's shoe closet is mostly occupied by boots and sneakers, with the exception of a few very tall lucite heels.

Cara Delevingne's Bathroom

Cara's gold bathtub has a view of the backyard. Beside it is also a steam shower.

Cara Delevingne's Pool Room

Shown here is Cara's vintage pool table. "I'm pretty good at pool," Cara said, "so watch out, everybody."

Another secret passageway leads into a stairway to the second floor. "I love things like escape rooms," Cara said. "That was kind of a lot of inspiration for this house."

A blue tiger-printed carpet covers the stairs to the second floor.

Cara Delevingne's Hat Room

"In my job and everything I do, I have to wear a lot of different hats," Cara said. "Anyone who comes upstairs, you have to get a different hat."

"There's a hat for every occasion," Cara said.

Cara Delevingne's Upstairs Bathroom

Jonathan Yeo designed the wallpaper, which Cara described as her favorite in the whole house.

Cara Delevingne's Costume Cupboard

As if the hat wall wasn't enough, Cara also has a costume cupboard.

"Everyone needs to come up and just get out of their heads and have a laugh," Cara said.

Cara Delevingne's Poker Room

The poker room was inspired by David Lynch and feels reminiscent of the red room in Twin Peaks.

Cara casually revealed that she's learned about various poker styles from her godmother Joan Collins: "She's very good at poker."

Cara Delevingne's Ball Pit

Perhaps the most fun element in Cara's home is the ball pit.

"They're really great for stress," Cara said of the ball pit. "You can't cry in a ball pit. I've tried."

"Honestly, every stress I've ever had is just gone, into the balls," Cara said. "The balls hold the stress now."

Cara Delevingne's Entertainment Room

An emerald-green sectional sofa sits in front of a projector screen that comes down.

The second-floor bar also carries through the home's jungle theme.

Cara showed off another arcade machine.

There's also a jukebox loaded up with songs personally picked by Cara.

Cara's music room is loaded with instruments. She can play the drums, guitar, and piano.

Cara also owns a Bowie-signed guitar.

Cara Delevingne's "Pink Room"

Cara calls this sexy attic lounge the "pink room" or "p*ssy palace," which has a swing, a mirrored ceiling, and soft suede walls.

Cara Delevingne's Backyard

A parrot sculpture overlooks the outdoor seating area.

Shown here is the first outdoor bar.

"This is definitely Alice in Wonderland," Cara said while approaching her tented lounge in the backyard.

"I want to figure out how to put a laser show up in here or something," she added.

And now, the second outdoor bar.

Cara said the pool was one of the reasons she bought the property. "Everything about this house was different to every other house I'd seen," she said.

"It kind of is a metaphor for how I am in life," Cara said while discussing her love of lions. "Fake it till you make it, or at least just exude the thing you want to be."
