Make Your Bouquets Last With This DIY Flower Food

There's nothing more wasteful than buying or receiving a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers only to see them dead a couple days later. But there's a simple solution to extending their life, and it only requires adding two ingredients to your vase.

First, cut your flower stems on a diagonal and remove any leaves that will fall below the water line. Natural Solutions for Cleaning & Wellness says to add two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of distilled vodka to a vase full of water. The vodka keeps bacteria under control, while the sugar feeds the flowers. For best results, replace the water daily.

When it's time to finally toss your flowers, turn them into potpourri instead!
