Put Leftover Party Balloons to Good Use With This Sneaky Hairstyling Hack

Any hairstyling technique that allows us to get extra beauty sleep each morning is a win in our books. We've used pin curls, bantu knots, and plopping on our quest for perfectly defined ringlets, but we're especially intrigued by the latest heatless method making the rounds on social media: balloon curls.

Vlogger Tina Lee of MakeupWearables Hairstyles revealed the easy trick on YouTube, which should be done on dry hair that has been lightly spritzed with water. To make the hack even easier, Lee suggests putting your mane up in a ponytail, then working on small sections of the updo.

Take some large, deflated balloons (the size you'd use for a party!), blow them up to about the size of a lemon, then tie it so the air can't leak out. The balloon should be very soft and malleable, not firm — that way, you won't pop them while you sleep. You'll fashion each one into a faux curler by wrapping sections of strands around them and securing with a bobby pin. When you're done, you'll look like you have a more festive version of hot rollers in your hair.

After six or eight hours (Lee declares these curlers very comfortable to sleep on!), take out the balloons. You'll see voluminous, beautifully shaped curls. And because this method is heat-free, your hair will look healthier, too. Watch and prepare to feel inspired.
