Millie Bobby Brown's Acceptance Speech 2018 MTV Movie Awards

Millie Bobby Brown Stands Up to Bullying in Acceptance Speech: "I'm Not Going to Tolerate It"

Millie Bobby Brown accepted the award for best performance in a show at the MTV Movie & TV Awards for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things. The teenage star couldn't attend Saturday night's show in NYC due to a minor knee injury, but she delivered her acceptance speech in a video from her home in Atlanta. Millie took the opportunity not only to thank her fans for their votes but also to publicly address bullying. "Since I know there are many young people watching this, and even some adults, too, they could probably use the reminder that I was taught — if you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say it," she said.

The statement comes days after Millie deleted her Twitter account following the rise of the hateful #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown memes, which people created using photos of the actress alongside extremely homophobic and bigoted quotes (all of which were made up). Since becoming the target of such horrible bullying at a young age, she clearly has learned how to deal with it in a mature way. "I'm not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you," she said, encouraging anyone who needs help to message her on Instagram.
