Ellen DeGeneres Addresses Toxic-Workplace Allegations During Season 18 Premiere: "I Am So Sorry"

Ellen DeGeneres is finally opening about the controversy surrounding her show. During the season 18 premiere of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host addressed the multiple allegations the show faced for having a toxic work environment earlier this summer. "I learned that things happened here that never should have happened," she said about the investigation. "I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected." She acknowledged that she knows she's "in a position of privilege and power" and "with that comes with responsibility." "I take responsibility for what happens at my show."

She then addressed the allegations about herself, which claimed that she is not who she appears to be on TV. "Being known as the be-kind lady is a tricky position to be in," she said in reference to her famous slogan. "I am that person that you see on TV. I am also a lot of other things. Sometimes I get sad. I get mad. I get anxious. I get frustrated. I get impatient. And I am working on all of that. I am a work in progress."
