Olympian or Not, We're Still Going to Try Out Tom Daley's Medal-Cozy Tutorial

Sure, we may not be Olympic medal winners, but regardless, we are definitely going to knit a medal cozy for an imaginary medal. Tom Daley, Olympic champion and knitter extraordinaire, has posted a tutorial on how to make a medal cozy on his hugely popular knitting and crocheting Instagram account, @madewithlovebytomdaley, and we're officially inspired.

"MAKE A MEDAL COSY WITH ME!" Tom captioned the Reels tutorial. "I made this one on my way to Plymouth! The original was done using intarsia but it is so much easier and quicker with duplicate stitch! β€οΈπŸ§ΆπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅. I used paintbox simply chunky and 5mm needles for this one! @paintboxyarns."

During the Tokyo Olympic Games, the United Kingdom became pretty obsessed with seeing Tom's creations from the stands. He knitted everything from a dog jumper to a medal cozy to, of course, his iconic Team GB cardigan (which singer Griff later wore for her Olympic homecoming performance). Tom's hobby started at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown and seems to have served him well during periods of spare time at the Olympic Games. "Learning to knit and crochet has helped me so much through these Olympics," Tom explained on Instagram.

BRB, we're off to get our knit on.
