The Best, Most Nostalgic Part of Grey's Anatomy's 300th Episode Is the Music

Can you believe we made it to the 300th episode of Grey's Anatomy? For the landmark occasion, we met tributes to the ghosts of the past. Episode 300 gives nods to some of the best characters that made us fall in love with the show in the first place: George, Izzie, Cristina, Lexie, Mark, and Callie. We even had flashbacks to that iconic title sequence that we'll never be able to get out of our heads. Perhaps most importantly, though, the episode also gives a nod to one of the show's most iconic claims to fame: incredible music. Let's go over the tracks that took us way, way back.

"Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John

A (sort of) alternate version of this song plays in the opening scene of the 300th episode, when Meredith is riding the ferry boat with Karev. Wondering where it's been featured before? Way back in season three, episode six, the gang eats lunch in the room with "Really Old Guy."

“Cosy in the Rocket,” by Psapp

Honestly, how can you hear those chimes and not think of the title sequence that was initially part of the opening credits?

"They" by Jem

Ah, another iconic song that appears in the very first episode of the show. This week, a cover plays while Alex shows Jo the "Izzie" character so she can get a sense of what the real Izzie is like. In the pilot, "They" plays after Miranda Bailey (dubbed "The Nazi") has assigned suck-up Izzie to rectal exams. Cristina is spying on an operation. George is trying and failing to do this whole intern thing. And Meredith is desperately trying to find her way around the hospital. Classic Grey's.

"Keep Breathing" by Ingrid Michaelson

In the 300th episode, it's only a cover, but it's still pretty unmistakable. "Keep Breathing" plays during a surgery sequence near the end of the episode. But this song also plays at one of the most heartbreaking moments in the show! In the season three finale, Burke leaves Cristina at the altar. The song plays as Cristina marches around the apartment in her wedding dress, realizing that all of his things are gone. She starts to break down and hyperventilate, and Meredith cuts her out of her wedding dress.

"Portions For Foxes" by Rilo Kiley

What a special moment. This easy-to-recognize song is the very first track featured on Grey's Anatomy. Just after Meredith kicks her one night stand, Derek Shepherd, out of her house, we descend into the first minutes of the intern program at Seattle Grace Hospital. In the 300th episode, it's the last song that plays as we close out the episode. Talk about a full circle.
