The A-List Cast For Netflix's Velvet Buzzsaw Is Seriously Scary Good

Jake Gyllenhaal, who previously worked with Velvet Buzzsaw's writer and director Dan Gilroy in 2014's Nightcrawler, stars in the film as Morf Vandewalt, a superficial Los Angeles art critic.

English actress Zawe Ashton — best known for her roles in Channel 4 comedy dramas Not Safe For Work and Fresh Meat, but most recently seen in Netflix's Wanderlust — will play Josephina, Morf Vandewalt's young assistant, who helps him discover the series of paintings from an unknown artist.

Jake Gyllenhaal's Nightcrawler costar Rene Russo (who is also married to director Dan Gilroy) plays Rhodora Haze, a former '70s punk band member who now runs the biggest contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles.

English actor and Broadway performer Tom Sturridge, who plays Jake in Starz's Sweetbitter, appears in the film as Jon Dondon, though it's not clear yet what role his character will play.

Legendary actor John Malkovich — who has appeared in more than 70 films during his career, including Netflix's recent hit Bird Box — will play Piers, the most successful contemporary artist in the world, who's known as much for his work as he is for his copious alcohol consumption.

Into the Woods and Game Night actor Billy Magnussen will appear in the film as Bryson, though it's also not yet clear how his character is incorporated in the film.

Natalia Dyer, also known as Nancy from Netflix's Stranger Things, will play Coco, though it's difficult to tell from the trailer who exactly her character is.

United States of Tara actress Toni Collette, who also stars in the Netflix series Wanderlust with costar Zawe Ashton, plays Gretchen, a former curator at Los Angeles' leading contemporary art museum who decides to become an art advisor, where the real money is.

Blindspotting producer and star Daveed Diggs (who originated the roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the insanely popular musical Hamilton) will appear in the movie, though his role hasn't yet been revealed.
