I'm Not Ready to Unpack Everything in the Trailer For I'm Thinking of Ending Things

Buckle up, because the trailer for Netflix's I'm Thinking of Ending Things is an absolute trip. What starts out as a seemingly lighthearted story about a girl (Jessie Buckley) going to visit her boyfriend's (Jesse Plemons) family for the first time takes a sharp turn into creepy town when she finally meets his parents (David Thewlis and Toni Collette). "There's something profoundly wrong here," The Young Woman says, and she doesn't know just how right she is.

Between Collette's overly enthusiastic laughing, Thewlis's unsettling behavior, Plemons's shifty looks, and the random cartoon sequence that pops up at the end, there's no telling where the story could go. Well, that's not actually true as I'm Thinking of Ending Things is based on Ian Reid's 2016 novel of the same name. If you're thinking of spoiling things, I won't stop you. I will say this though: what little we see of everyone's performances has me eager for the film's release on Sept. 4.
