12 Movies You'd Never Guess Are Based on Short Stories

I haven't read a ton of short stories, but I recently read The Best American Mystery Stories 2015 for my book club — one of the great perks of book club is reading books you wouldn't normally pick up — and was surprised at one point guest editor James Patterson made about them in the introduction. He explained that short stories make great films because they get straight to the action and tell a gripping story in a succinct package. They manage to pull you in and get you emotionally invested right away, something filmmakers hope their movies will do as well. Here are 12 popular movies you might not know are based on short stories (and novellas). Reading a book made into a movie has never been so easy!
