Nashville Series Finale: Here's Where All the Characters End Up

After four soapy seasons, Nashville has concluded. Tensions are at an all-time high during the final episodes, with Maddie finally getting emancipated from Rayna and Deacon, Scarlett and Gunnar on the verge of calling it quits on The Exes, and Juliette heading down a dangerous path. We're still reeling from ABC's decision to cancel the show, but at least we know how everything ends . . . sort of. The finale, aptly titled "Maybe You'll Appreciate Me Someday," ends on a big cliffhanger, one that we'll never see resolved. Here's how it all goes down!

Luke
ABC

Luke

Luke is no longer estranged from his son, who is in the military now. He uses his connections to help Will speak his truth in the public eye. In his last scene, he calls home to speak to the now-single mother of his children, implying that they might rekindle their relationship.

Will
ABC

Will

Will ends up finally standing up for himself and the gay community. He goes on live TV and takes down the haters, then plays a show. In his final moment on screen, he approaches Kevin about possibly dating again, and they share a kiss.

Layla
ABC

Layla

Avery catches Layla in her web of lies about Juliette, and he admits that she's just been trying to get him to see what a terrible person Juliette is. He calls her crazy, and she ends up alone. Bucky calls to give her great news about her skyrocketing career, but the bottom line is that she's miserable.

Gunnar and Scarlett
ABC

Gunnar and Scarlett

Scarlett tells Gunnar that she's in love with him, right as Autumn strolls up to tell Scarlett that she and Gunnar are an item. Scarlett is crestfallen, and the two friends-turned-lovers-turned-bandmates have a couple fights throughout the episode. In their final show together, Gunnar stops playing and kisses Scarlett in front of the whole audience, including Autumn — who declares that they are "so fired."

Maddie
ABC

Maddie

Maddie starts to work with a scummy producer but realizes she's in a dangerous spot when he puts the moves on her. Right as he gets up to mix drinks, she sees an open letter that Rayna published telling her that the producer she's working with had once tried to push himself on Rayna. Maddie starts to panic, but Deacon comes in to save the day, bringing her back to their family — for good.

Deacon and Rayna
ABC

Deacon and Rayna

Nashville's main couple had been going through a rough patch all season thanks to Deacon's temper pushing Maddie away, but Deacon's final act of rescuing Maddie solidifies Rayna's love for him. The two embrace, then hold hands with their newly unified family.

Juliette
ABC

Juliette

Against the advice of her manager, Juliette comes clean about having been on the roof the night of Jeff Fordham's death. She goes on TV to admit that she was up there to commit suicide and that Jeff was a hero for saving her life. Juliette skips out on the Oscars to board a plane to see Avery and their baby.

Avery
ABC

Avery

Avery splits up with Layla after discovering the extent of her lies, and when he sees Juliette's confession about her suicide attempt, he calls her to reconcile. The episode ends with him at the airport, waiting for her plane to land, when a worker approaches him to say that they've lost contact with Juliette's plane. We'll never know if Juliette survives and reunites with her family!
