What I'm Listening to This Week: Summer Walker, Kash Doll, Remi Wolf, and Liz Phair

I'm going to keep this short, because we have a lot to get to. In this edition of What I'm Listening to This Week, I'm enjoying quite a few things, including debut albums from Summer Walker and Kash Doll and brand-new blessings from my longtime faves Frank Ocean and Liz Phair. I'm also feeling these cute breakup bops from Hayley Kiyoko, Kiana Ledé, and Remi Wolf. Like I said, there's a lot. Here's what you should slam the play button on this week and why.

Stacked by Kash Doll

Stacked by Kash Doll

The debut album from rising Detroit rapper Kash Doll tells the story of her struggles and setbacks, but (as the title suggests) it also explores the stacked layers of her personality through versatile, self-aware bangers.

"DHL" by Frank Ocean

On the heels of his queer club night in NYC, Frank Ocean dropped this gem of a single, which I've had a hard time turning off.

"I Wish" by Hayley Kiyoko

This song makes me want to get up and dance, but also cry in the shower?

"Doctor" by Remi Wolf

Another one that makes me want to get up and dance is this track from California-based singer Remi Wolf, who was actually an American Idol contestant during the show's thirteenth season in 2014. I love this song, and am really looking forward to seeing her on tour with Cautious Clay next month.

"Good Side" by Liz Phair

The '90s rock icon dropped her first single in 10 years, just in time for me to be in my Fall feelings. The song, which is about wanting to leave a relationship before things get really bad, gets me very pumped for Phair's upcoming album in 2020 and even more excited to dive into her new book, Horror Stories: A Memoir.

"Easy Breezy" by Kiana Ledé

If you're going through it with a wishy-washy partner, play this song and play it loud. The beat is fire.

Over It by Summer Walker

Over It by Summer Walker

Summer Walker's debut studio album is a revelation. She's giving me the modern-day equivalent of the '90s R&B grooves I grew up with from young vocalists like Brandy, Monica, TLC, and Usher. I was especially thrilled to hear Summer Walker's collaboration with Usher on "Come Thru," which samples his iconic 1997 hit "You Make Me Wanna," and the 6lack-assisted jam "Like It," which should be added to your sex playlist immediately.

Standout track: "Nobody Else"
