The "Run the World" Girls Help Whitney Ease Back Into the Dating Scene in the Season 2 Trailer

Starz

At last, after a nearly two-year hiatus away from our TV screens, Starz's "Run the World" is finally returning for season two in May. The premium network announced the big news on Feb. 15, along with first-look photos of the upcoming season — which will see Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, and Corbin Reid return as 30-something best friends Whitney, Renee, and Sondi living and thriving in their Harlem element.

Per Starz, season two will continue to "focus on the bonds of friendship and power of Black sisterhood as the ladies fashionably navigate through the ups and downs of love and careers in their pursuit of world domination." Picking up where last season left off, viewers will see how Whitney navigates her "road of self-discovery" as she chooses to pursue a life with or without her fiancé, Ola, as well as Renee and Sondi's next chapters as they decide what they want out of love, life, and their careers.

As seen in the trailer, released by Starz on April 25, the girls (sans Ella) are going to have quite a time keeping their love lives on track this season, especially since Whitney is officially back in the dating game — or is she?

"Run the World," produced by Lionsgate for STARZ, debuted its first season in May 2021 and earned its season two renewal three months later, with Rachelle Williams coming in as the new showrunner to take over for Yvette Lee Bowser ("Living Single"). Bowser and Leigh Davenport will still serve as executive producers. "'Run the World' has been so passionately embraced by our audience and we are thrilled to bring fans another season," Alison Hoffman, president of domestic networks for Starz, told Deadline in a statement at the time. "Our incredibly talented cast and executive producers Yvette and Leigh are set to return, and we're excited to welcome Rachelle back into the Starz family leading as showrunner and executive producer."

"Run the World" Season 2 Cast

Stevens West, Webb, and Reid are all returning to their respective roles as the show's main leads. The returning cast of "Run the World" season two also includes Tosin Morohunfola (Ola) and Stephen Bishop (Matthew) in recurring roles, Erika Alexander (Barb) and Nick Sagar (Anderson) as recurring guest stars, and Jay Walker (Jason) and Tonya Pinkins (Gwen) as guest stars.

According to Starz, Tika Sumpter, Chris "Comedian CP" Powell, and Isha Blaaker are also part of the season two cast as recurring characters, while Cree Summer and Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins join as new guest stars.

Andrea Bordeaux, who played Ella, will not return, as she was reportedly fired from the series. The actor spoke out about the decision on Instagram in February 2022, claiming she was let go over a COVID vaccine mandate.

"Getting the opportunity to play Ella on #RunTheWorld was an absolute dream come true," she wrote in a caption, responding to claims that she exited on her own. "I would have loved to continue to grow with this delightful character and having to come to terms with this sharp turn in my life, my dream, and career these past several weeks has been heartbreaking beyond words. I have so much love for the cast and crew of 'Run The World' and will miss them. I wish you all the best. Swipe for a few of my favorite memories. 💔"
