The Schitt's Creek Cast Sang "Hero" in Character — Then Mariah Carey Herself Showed Up

Graduation looks a lot different for the class of 2020, but the Schitt's Creek cast and Mariah Carey are here to make things a little brighter. The Pop TV crew sent an in-character message to students as part of YouTube's "Dear Class of 2020" virtual commencement celebration, which included an a cappella performance of Carey's classic hit "Hero." Patrick and Twyla (played by Noah Reid and Sarah Levy) took the lead, with the support of the Roses and Moira's Jazzagals, until the Grammy Award-winning singer herself jumped in to finish things off.

Carey's music plays a pivotal role in the Schitt's Creek universe, especially in David and Patrick's love story. "You're my Mariah Carey" is a phrase from the show that's now printed on T-shirts and coffee mugs, for example. The cast's beautiful rendition was made even sweeter by her surprise appearance. Watch the full video above to see the performance, plus every excited in-character reaction from Moira to Stevie.
