Alison Brie, Jay Ellis, and Kiersey Clemons Form a Messy Love Triangle in "Somebody I Used to Know"

Love can be beautiful, but it can also be an absolute mess. In the trailer for the new rom-com "Somebody I Used to Know," released Jan. 12, Alison Brie plays Ally, who heads back into her past and reconnects with her ex-boyfriend Sean, played by Jay Ellis. Just when she thinks they might be falling for each other again and she can redo her past mistakes, she learns he's getting married to his girlfriend Cassidy, played by Kiersey Clemons. And to make things more interesting, it seems both of the spouses-to-be start feeling some deep attraction for Ally in the days leading up to their wedding. If this is the first mainstream rom-com to end in a throuple, we wouldn't be mad, but we'll have to wait for the full thing to see.

"Somebody I Used to Know" is written by Brie and her husband, Dave Franco, who also serves as director. Prime says the movie "is an unconventional love story about three people who unexpectedly help each other rediscover who they really are, where they came from, and where they're going."

This film isn't the first collaboration for Franco and Brie, who married in 2017. Brie previously starred in 2020's "The Rental," which Franco directed.

The day before the film's trailer was released, Brie and Franco shared a video on social media teasing footage of the project. "The whole thing just has us feeling nostalgic for when we first met and we found an old voice recording from 10 years ago," Franco said of creating the film together. "This is a real recording of Alison expressing her love for me." He added that he titled the voice note, "Alison drunk," and then played the clip of her speaking gibberish while he's heard laughing.

"Somebody I Used to Know" will stream Feb. 10 on Prime Video.
