This Mom Doesn't Care If You Approve of Her 6-Year-Old's "Unicorn Hair"

Hairstylist Mary Thomaston's 6-year-old daughter, Lyra, had been begging for "unicorn hair" for months before Thomaston finally gave in and allowed it. She called Lyra's school to make sure it was OK, and after getting the thumbs up, she bought some temporary hair color in bright colors for her little girl.

"My very own baby unicorn. She's been wanting this done for awhile now," Thomaston wrote on an Instagram post of the finished hairdo. "All her own ideas."

However, not everyone who saw the darling photos of Lyra with her seriously cool hairstyle were so into the concept of a mother coloring and shaving her young daughter's hair and made that clear in the comments. Seeing the backlash, Thomaston added a disclaimer to her post's caption: "Don't worry folks it'll wash out. She wasn't harmed in the process. Just putting that out there since some people seem to be having a hard time with me coloring my child's hair. It's hair . . . it'll grow back!"
