Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union Praised Zaya at the GLAAD Awards: "We Stand as Allies"

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are proud parents. During Thursday night's GLAAD Media Awards, they took the time to honor their daughter Zaya for not only living her most authentic life but for helping them open their hearts as allies in the process. As they presented the award for outstanding drama series, they thanked 13-year-old Zaya.

"We stand as allies with the LGBTQ+ community as proud parents of a transgender child. Our daughter, Zaya, is leading us on our journey, and we're doing all we can to give every one of our kids the ability to live their truth," Dwyane said. "I didn't always understand how to do that, but I want to thank Zaya for teaching me and GLAAD for elevating the images and messages that accelerate acceptance in every family."

Gabrielle continued, "That mission means even more to us now as we raise all of our Black children. Black lives matter, and Black trans lives matter. We are calling on all of our racial justice warriors out there to open your hearts and your minds to the LGBTQ+ community, so that we can work together and empower each other and save lives."

As they presented the award to the groundbreaking Pose cast, the duo thanked GLAAD for the opportunity. Dwyane and Gabrielle have stood together as allies with the LGBTQ+ community and showed what it means to be unconditionally supportive parents. Watch the heartfelt clip above.
