1 Girl Made a Short Film About a World Where Gender Roles Are Reversed – Can We Give It an Oscar Now?

Ella Fields, a 14-year-old from California, went above and beyond when she was assigned a video project last year while attending Cinematic Arts Academy at Millikan Middle School in Los Angeles. The high school freshman tackled a topic that's been controversial lately: gender norms.

Fields's short film "Stereo" has already racked up more than 1.6 million views and dives into what would happen if gender roles were totally reversed — if boys wore dresses and girls were groomed to be athletes. And the results, captured in only six minutes, send a very powerful message about how ingrained stereotypes based on gender are in society today.

The budding director explained her rationale behind the movie in an interview with The Huffington Post: "One of the first things that popped into my head was gender stereotypes, and how I truly believe that anyone can wear whatever they want, and how colors should not have any gender associated with them; they are just colors," she said.
