What We Know About Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons's 2 Sons, Ennis and James

Before Kirsten Dunst got engaged and tied the knot with Jesse Plemons in 2022, the "Power of the Dog" star had an exact plan for starting a family — which included egg freezing. What she didn't anticipate, though, was falling in love with Plemons and welcoming two kids with him. "I thought I would have a hard time getting pregnant, but it was a surprise," she said in a 2019 cover story for Net-a-Porter's digital magazine. "If I hadn't met Jesse, I would have frozen my eggs. [But] it feels like I lucked out."

According to Dunst, it took becoming a godmother for her to fully realize how badly she wanted to join the mom club. "I wasn't one of those 'I need a baby!' people until my goddaughter was born," she recalled to Marie Claire UK in 2017. ". . . That love is just like . . . you can't experience that unless you have a kid. I put her to bed last night and she woke up this morning and said to her mom, 'Where's Kiki?' I just love that love. That's what I want.'"

Fast-forward a year later, Dunst gave birth to her and Plemons's first child, a son named Ennis. Three years later, their second son, James, arrived, too.

Dunst and Plemons are pretty private when it comes to their romance and parent life (they barely post photos of their kids on social media), but they have shared some rare tidbits over the years. In August 2019, Dunst opened up to Us Weekly about her first year of parenthood, saying, "God, you're just tired all the time." While promoting her Showtime series "On Becoming a God in Central Florida," she added, "Also, doing this show too . . . It's so much easier to go back to work than it is to be a stay-at-home mom."

Plemons, meanwhile, raved about dad life to GQ a few months later, telling the outlet that November, "It's the best." He continued, "It's so hard to put into words. All the clichés are true, what every parent tells you."

Ennis Howard Plemons

Dunst and Plemons welcomed their first child, Ennis, on May 3, 2018. The "Spider-Man" actor revealed the backstory behind her oldest son's name on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" back in 2019. "You know those baby websites where you just keep scrolling. We were like, 'We like that. It sounds cool,'" she laughed in regards to the name's Western, old-cowboy vibe. Dunst also said she's already brainstormed the possible ways Ennis could be teased on the playground because of his name. "I know what Ennis will be called," she continued. "Come on, you just stick a P in front of it. There's also anus. That's not a great one."

At just 5 years old, Ennis has already racked up quite a few funny stories. Because the parents were filming in New Zealand pre-COVID, the crew decided to hunker down out there once quarantine went into effect. "It helps him with his potty training," Dunst told the Los Angeles Times in 2020, referring to Ennis using the backyard as his personal outhouse at their temporary rural home in Auckland.

According to Ennis's dad, he's quite the reader as well, though as of April he seemed to be stuck on one particular book series. During an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Plemons shared that he and Dunst's oldest is a big fan of the late-night show host's children's books. "Our kid is [almost] 5 now, and all he wants to read is 'Mama' and 'Dada' book[s]," the "Killers of the Flower Moon" actor said. "Now I'm worried . . ."

James Robert Plemons

Dunst and Plemons's second son, James, was born sometime in 2021. The former unveiled her pregnancy on the April 2021 cover of W Magazine before announcing his birth in an interview with The New York Times published that September. The "Bring It On" star introduced her then 4-month-old son by saying, "This is the newest guy, the Big Kahuna." "He's an angel," Dunst added, "but he's a hungry angel. And a heavy angel."

It seems Dunst and Plemons's youngest is a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, per a rare photo of him hiding under a Spider-Man umbrella that Dunst shared on Instagram on Sept. 17. She wrote in the caption that James "has no clue his mom was MJ," referring to her "Spider-Man" role.
