The first day of school is often a little overwhelming, whether your child's embarking on their first day or kindergarten or starting at a new middle school or high school. Emotions can run high and nerves can come into play, so it's not uncommon to see younger kids holding onto parents for a few moments longer after they go in for a goodbye hug.
