Clear Plastic Jeans Exist — Because Apparently Nothing Is Off Limits
Just when we thought we'd seen it all, Topshop dropped another contentious piece of merchandise that has the internet up in arms. Before we could even wrap our heads around the questionable absurdity of the retailer's clear-knee mom jeans, Topshop started selling a pair of MOTO Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans. Nope, this isn't the result of an ironic Mad Libs game; it's the actual name of a product for sale on a website that people actually shop on. For a mere $100, you too can voluntarily induce sweaty legs, all in the name of making a fashion statement.
In the product details, Topshop has a pretty LOL-worthy description of these strange pants, which formally nix your ability to go commando. "Think outside the box with these out-of-the-ordinary clear plastic jeans — guaranteed to get people talking," it says. Yes, we agree they'll definitely get people talking, but the description fails to mention they'll also get people staring, laughing, and probably Snapchatting photos to their friends, too. Apparently that hasn't hindered some courageous shoppers from wanting to take these babies for a spin, as the jeans have already sold out in two sizes.
Now, these pants aren't totally out of left field for Topshop, as we've been seeing transparent clothing and accessories pop up in plenty of stores lately. Plus, celebrities like Kendall Jenner seem to be more open to experimenting with interesting alternatives to basic denim. But these see-through "jeans" take those two trends, put them in a blender, and concoct a next-level mashup we never predicted in our wildest dreams.
Naturally, upon discovering these unique pants, people on Twitter couldn't resist offering up their candid reactions, and some of them are pretty darn hilarious. Scroll for an up-close look at the jeans and a laugh at what people are saying about them on social media.
