This Blogger Designed Affordable Hoodies and Tees With the Most Badass Love Quotes

At this point, plenty of bloggers have developed their businesses and launched fashion labels. Chiara Ferragni proved her design prowess by turning The Blonde Salad into a brand, and Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What created Second Skin overalls and a line of boots with Archive Shoes. But I've never been particularly struck by an influencer's debut clothing — that is, until I saw what Andy Torres had to offer.

Andy calls herself one of the "OG" bloggers (she's been at it since 2007), and she's got 785,000 followers on Instagram. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and based in Amsterdam, Andy felt like she had a lot of cultural influence to inspire a ready-to-wear collection. But there was something else she had: a recent breakup under her belt. Andy didn't shy away from weaving this narrative into her new AIT threads. In fact, it became the foundation of her hoodies, button-downs, tees, and slip dresses, all of which are versatile, range in price from $49 to $129, and are made at a factory under safe, no-nonsense conditions (Andy visited it herself!).

Our favorite pieces are the ones that speak to Andy's love life, embroidered with phrases like "Your loss, babe," "Let the distance keep us together," and "Boys, boys, boys." We talked to Andy about her own go-to piece, the design experience, and love because — let's be real — every chick likes to wear her heart on her sleeve. Read on to see what she had to say, watch a BTS video, and check out more from Andy's first drop, which you can shop now at AIT.

Andy's Breakup Inspired the Love Quotes on the Clothes

Andy's Breakup Inspired the Love Quotes on the Clothes

"When I first started gathering inspiration for AIT's first drop, I was going through a breakup — we have all been there — and a few of my friends were simultaneously having these sh*tty experiences in their love lives. I remember having endless WhatsApp conversations with my friends about this, and we all came down to one simple fact: it was their loss. So this is how 'Your Loss, Babe' came to life.

"As the year went on, I found myself meeting the most AMAZING guy, who I not only fell in love with, but [the experience] also changed my whole perspective on the direction I wanted to take in terms of inspiration for our quotes. That's how the 'Hold on to Me' bomber and 'Let the Distance Keep Us Together' hoodie came to be. When I look back at how the year went by in terms of personal experiences, the circle was closed with a very happy ending for me — falling in love and launching my dream brand — but I still think it's fun to have those pieces, which every single girl and guy can relate to at some point."

"Definitely the 'Let the Distance Keep Us Together' hoodie. I wear it with supersexy knee-high boots when I want to make a statement, but it's perfect to wear with sneakers for lunch out with my friends or to cozy up on the couch for a movie night with my boyfriend. I literally wear it all the time!"

Andy Learned Patience While Creating the Collection

"I am a perfectionist, and I have a very strong creative direction, so I wanted my exact vision to come to life, and that does take a bit of time. I had to exercise a lot of patience, which was difficult at times. The most rewarding part was seeing the final samples, trying them on, and realizing I had created my perfect product."

This Collection Deserves a Soundtrack

"I would definitely have to give it more than one song! AIT's first collection is like my yin and yang, so I need to give it two different songs: 'Stonecold' by Machineheart and 'Adore' by Amy Shark."

The Collection Is Perfect For All Body Types

"I wanted to create a brand with an oversize fit to it. I am very tall, so I wanted to create clothes that finally fit me properly, but as I was asking around, even friends who were much shorter than me mentioned they loved that 'boyfriend fit' when it comes to clothes. I want AIT to have the vibe of 'I just took this hoodie from my boyfriend's closet because it's my favorite.' Only, this time you don't need to steal it from your boyfriend because I have got you covered!"
