I don't know about you, but I am always watching Friends reruns, and pretty much immediately after we all started officially sheltering in place, I knew I had to rewatch every season. It didn't take long before I was propped up in bed, ice cream pint in hand, transfixed on one of Rachel's baseball tees. The same thing happened again when I saw Chandler in his waffle henley. I thought to myself, "This is all the stuff I want to be wearing right now!" Yep, somehow, none of my own sweat sets could compare to the screen style on Friends.
It's true — Ross, Chandler, Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, and Joey each stuck to their own signature casual aesthetic while lounging in the apartment, but they all owned pieces that were like, way stylish for athleisure-wear in the '90s. I always knew I was into how Rachel dressed in her miniskirts, tights, and boots, and that I loved the way Monica wore mom jeans, so wasn't it obvious that the best place to seek work-from-home style was right here on Friends too? While it'd be impossible to immediately translate the iconic Friends costumes into my own wardrobe, I had a lot of fun searching for cozy throwovers, graphic shirts, and PJ pants that are directly inspired by looks that the characters wore on the show. Scroll to see what I found.
Of course it looked great casually unbuttoned with medium-wash mom jeans.
Love an oversize one with baggy jeans and low-top Converse, don't you?
This look is just begging me to pull out my hair straightener and rummage around for my old vintage baseball shirt.
Marc Jacobs Printed T-Shirt ($87, originally $145)
A fitted mockneck with that stripe detail makes a laidback look like this one so much more athleisure friendly. When you're feeling sporty, it's Joey's closet all the way.
La Ligne Marin Turtleneck ($295)
Chandler always made a half button-down look really chill with a pair of jeans and sneakers. A fit like this one is basically pajamas.
Everlane Women's Henley Waffle Tee in Heather Gray ($38, originally $80)
Leave it to Phoebe to lounge around in something a little more eccentric than everyone else. Even still, I'd feel excited to slip on a pair of cool embellished jeans with socks and a white tee for a Zoom call.
Michael Michael Kors Embellished Jeans ($221, originally $368)
A clear throwback to my childhood, such lightweight pajama pants like these with a playful print still feel right with a tight-fit ribbed tank.
Ross had so many of these chunky knits that he'd wear over a tee with corduroys. I can't say I wouldn't throw on a live-in worthy cashmere like this one with boxers or briefs right about now.
Monica definitely knew what colors worked for her and her sweater selections were usually vibrant. I'd definitely throw this one on on a Friday night if I was feeling romantic — accessorized with a glass of red wine, of course.
Superdry Croyde Cable Knit Sweater ($53, originally $66)
To get a little more dressed up for an important video chat or maybe even date night at home, go for something easy and breezy like Phoebe's floor-length maxi. You can wear it with nothing underneath if you so choose.
Akasa Exclusive Maxi Beach Dress With Button Front in Black ($34, originally $42)
I wouldn't usually eye Chandler's sweater vest and immediately say, "I'm going to make you mine," but I'm attracted to all things oversize and soft lately.
