With average temperatures in the 70s, Los Angeles is a great place for working out outdoors. We partnered with Nike to find the best nongym spots to get in shape.

Los Angeles is the type of city that motivates you to take your cardio training session outdoors. With warm weather and countless hills, trails, and challenging staircases at your disposal, there's no reason to spend precious exercise hours inside. If you're on the market for a new fitness opportunity, we gathered five no-cost workouts in the City of Angels.

Griffith Park

Don't get thrown off by the vast number of trails at Griffith Park. Perhaps the most popular route, however, is the voyage to the world-famous Hollywood sign, perched high up on the mountainside. The walk is mostly uphill, but the view from the top is worth the cardio challenge.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook climb is deceptively tough. The trek is less than two miles long, but if you take the steep cement staircase up, you'll get a good glute burn the entire way. At the peak, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the city.

Santa Monica Stairs

The packed circuit at the 4th Street Stairs in Santa Monica is practically a city staple among the sweaty set, luring locals, professional NBA athletes, and fearless trainers, who come toting yoga mats and unwieldy dumbbells. Expect a crowd — and an intense cardio climb — when you go. Pro tip: there's a second set of wooden stairs near 7th Street, so if you have bad knees, you might enjoy this alternative. And if the scene gets too crowded for you, check out the nearby La Mesa stairs, nestled between two properties at 404 La Mesa Road.

Swings, Rings, and Ropes at Muscle Beach

Just south of the Santa Monica Pier, Muscle Beach is home to a mixed bag of characters, from gymnasts to tightrope walkers to curious fitness enthusiasts. Start your workout with a light jog in the sand, and then tone your upper body by climbing ropes or maneuvering across the parallel bars.

Runyon Canyon

Always a crowd pleaser, Runyon Canyon is arguably LA's most popular outdoor workout spot, with different trails of varying intensities that will take you to the top. If hills and hiking aren't your thing, there's free yoga on the grass near the Fuller Avenue entrance.
