Yes, you read that right. If you want to reduce your risk of memory loss, it's time to have more sex — safe sex, that is! A recent study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior had 6,016 adults, ages 50 and older, complete an episodic memory task and questionnaire related to health, sexual activity, and emotional closeness. Researchers found that more frequent sexual activity (masturbation included) and emotional closeness during sex were associated with better memory performance. The best part: the study found that the association was the strongest among the older participants! While people's memory performance did decline over two years, sexual activity did help with short-term memory tasks.
