The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, is best known for her cheery personality and comforting recipes made on her ranch in Oklahoma. Her favorite holiday sugar cookies take on a fun new twist with dyed egg-wash paint in place of traditional icing. Lemon zest is added to the cookie dough for a light hint of citrus, and the egg-wash paint makes these cookies much less sweet than traditional frosted sugar cookies.

In her step-by-step blog post, Ree doubles her recipe, so be mindful of the portions if you're not looking to make enough cookies for a small army. The egg-wash paint goes a long way, which makes it easy to have a variety of colors for your cookie designs. The color of the glaze comes out a lot more vibrant once it's baked and the piped powdered-sugar icing adds a bit of added sweetness to each bite. Make these cookies with the whole family and add some color to your holiday spread. Just be sure to make extra because they're as addictive as they are cute.
