Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Postpartum Depression and the Delay of Her Next Cookbook

While Chrissy Teigen's biggest food fans are patiently awaiting the arrival of the Cravings author's second cookbook, the model has opened up about why the book has been postponed. In an essay about postpartum depression in Glamour, Chrissy opens up about her struggle to come to terms with the physical and emotional pain she was experiencing. John and Chrissy's adorable baby Luna was born in April 2016, and Chrissy was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety around the time of the holidays months later. That's about the time that she started developing her second cookbook, too.

"I didn't have an appetite. I would go two days without a bite of food, and you know how big of a deal food is for me," Chrissy writes. In addition to sharing her personal experiences with unhappiness and figuring it all out, Chrissy mentions how her depression affected the process of writing her new cookbook and shares that she had to postpone it.

"I had to postpone my second cookbook, but my editor, Francis Lam, and publisher couldn't have been more understanding. To go from discussing layouts and recipes and shoot days to a complete 'off' switch was, I'm sure, not a great thing to hear. But, again, I cannot overstate how lucky I am to work with these people."

Chrissy admits the recipe-developing experience was a lot different the first time around, saying, "With the first, I was in the kitchen the whole time. I stirred every pot, tasted everything. Had genuine excitement for Every. Single. Recipe. This one came at the height of my losing my appetite, and the idea of having to test and taste recipes actually made me vomit. I was still on the couch a lot."

While we know Chrissy Teigen's second cookbook will undoubtedly be as amazing as the first based on sneak peeks she has shared, it's important that Chrissy does it on her own time and takes care of her own health first. You can read the full essay in Glamour's latest issue, on newsstands March 14.
