It's important that all of us join together to keep the conversation going about systemic racism in America after the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others in recent months. We must foster antiracism in our homes, educate ourselves, speak out, and get involved with actions toward change.
While there are many ways of doing this — donations, petitions, and peaceful protests (to name a few) — you can also show economy-boosting support by frequenting Black-owned restaurants. Whether you live in California, New York, New Mexico, or North Carolina, we've gathered a list of just some of the many Black-owned restaurants to visit across the United States. From soul food to Ethiopian dishes, American BBQ to Japanese, there are so many delicious eateries to consider. Read ahead to see our picks, and check out the great resources available out there, like the EatOkra app, for finding the Black-owned restaurants in your neighborhood.
Simply Soul, which was located on an Air Force base in Cheyenne, WY, was (and still is) often listed as one of the only Black-owned restaurants in Wyoming. It closed in 2018, and unfortunately, we have not tracked down another Black-owned restaurant in the state. If you know of one, please let us know with a comment on our socials!
