At LeakyCon 2016, a Harry Potter convention that took place in Burbank, CA, I attended a gathering called Everlasting Ink: The Potter Tattoo Meetup. I expected it to be all about people showing each other their Harry Potter tattoos to share ideas and inspire future ink, but what I wasn't prepared for was an outpouring of beautiful stories. Men and women bravely spoke about personal struggles, what they've overcome in their lives, and the lost loved ones who inspired their tattoos. Keep reading for some of these moving stories in addition to other fans' creative Harry Potter tattoos.

Jordanne Benton was inspired by the lyrics to "A Pensive Full of Unrequited Love" by The Mudbloods for her potions tattoo, which is still in progress. Specifically, the line "I wish you peace and love and happiness in everything you do" resonated with her and her sister when they were both struggling with health problems.

Jenni Russell chose to get a tattoo of her patronus, a phoenix, during a difficult time when she decided to quit her job and move back home. It's on her back shoulder so that it's always there, watching out for her. "I was going to leave all the crappy stuff that had happened to me in the past and be more positive moving forward," she told me.

Noelle Phelps designed her beautiful and intricate Mirror of Erised tattoo as a way to honor loved ones she lost. The three roses are in remembrance of three of her family members who passed away, with each one in their corresponding favorite color. The musical notes are from "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" by Johnny Cash, a song that is traditionally played at her family's memorial services.

Kate Glass has an especially meaningful reason for getting her phoenix tattoo. She got it when she was one year sober, and she just celebrated five years sober. "I wanted to be able to see it all the time," she told me on why she chose her foot for the tattoo. Also, look closely: there's a Deathly Hallows symbol nestled in the middle of the feathers.
