Watch What Happens When 1 Man Tries to Bring Peace to Charlotte by Hugging Police

During a time of chaos and frustration, bringing a disheartened community together is just what Free Hugs Project founder Ken Nwadike is trying to do. On Wednesday night, Ken walked the streets of downtown Charlotte, NC, wearing a "Free Hugs" t-shirt in an attempt to spread love among a crowd of angry and frustrated citizens. Following the deadly police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott earlier this week, hundreds of protesters are rioting in the Charlotte streets to express their outrage over the troubling incident.

While being confronted by demonstrators who were upset that he had hugged officers, Ken stood his ground as he defended the efforts of Charlotte's police force. "When one person does something, would you say that every black person is bad? If one cop does something, you cannot say that every cop is bad," he said, pointing to the policemen behind him.

Since 2014, Ken has been traveling the country in an effort to bring awareness to social justice issues while providing people with as many free hugs as physically possible. Learn more about his story by watching this video from when we met up with him at the political conventions this Summer.
