In this current social and political climate, it's easy to hunker down and only surround yourself with like-minded folk. Particularly when there's so much at stake and such high tension involved in every Twitter debate or clash between protesters, it's so simple to either ignore problems altogether or create your own social echo chamber. It's also simple to oversimplify massive problems by implying that they can be solved with, say, an ice-cold soda. But Heineken's latest ad makes the case for having tough conversations, proving (the right way) that a beverage ad can be political while striking the right tone.

The ad lends a perspective to opposing sides of controversial modern issues: transgender rights, climate change, and feminism. The commercial demonstrates how recognizing others' opinions and engaging in civil discourse can result in open minds, all without steering clear of uncomfortable realities of prejudice. As one YouTube commenter put it: "Take notes, Pepsi." Now, who wants a beer?
