Joe Biden's German Shepard Major Is Getting His Very Own "Indoguration" Ceremony

It's official: Joe Biden's German Shepherd, Major, is getting his very own "indoguration" on Jan. 17. The first dog from a shelter to ever call the White House home, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) and Pumpkin Pet Insurance are partnering together to throw a celebratory virtual event. And yes, all dog-lovers and their four-legged friends are welcome to attend!

A pet dad to two German Shepherd — his other pup's name is Champ, how adorable! — President-Elect Biden has supported Major since 2018, when he was just a pup. According to NPR, Major was one of many puppies who came to the shelter after ingesting a mysterious "toxic substance." After the shelter employees nursed the dogs back to health, they made a Facebook post in an effort to find them forever homes. Apparently, the ad caught Joe's daughter Ashley's eye — her dad was looking for a companion for Champ, after all — and the rest is history.

Hosted by Today's Jill Martin, the indoguration will include appearances by 14-year-old animal advocate and entrepreneur Sir Darius Brown and Lindsey Vonn's famous three rescue dogs.

"We are thrilled to participate in what will hopefully be the world's largest Zoom call for dogs," said the DHA's Executive Director, Patrick J. Carroll, in a press release. "2020 was a tough year for all of us financially – both for animal shelters and pet owners alike. Here at DHA our mission is to make 'friends for life' by connecting people with animals, and by building strong relationships to better serve our community. With Major heading to the White House, it's our sincere hope that we can continue to connect more homeless animals with families than ever before. If a shelter dog is good enough for the White House, they're good enough for your house!"

Pet owners who want to attend the event are required to donate a minimum of $10, with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the DHA. You can register for the event on the DHA's website. Don't forget to tune in at 3 p.m. EST!
