We're addicted to our phones. We have a stronger relationship with them than we do our parents, BFFs, and SOs. Which is why it's understandable that it's hard to disconnect and you want to keep your favorite possession close to you at all times. However, if you really want to make sure you clear your mind and get a solid night's sleep, the key is moving that smartphone and any other tech devices off your nightstand and out of your bedroom!

Huffington Post cofounder and editor in chief Arianna Huffington believes a good night's sleep can transform your life. In 2007, Arianna experienced a major wake-up call when she literally broke a cheekbone when she fell asleep at her desk from lack of sleep and being overworked. The moment inspired a rethinking of her priorities and roused the research for her new book, The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life One Night at a Time. Arianna and I recently sat down to chat about the importance of sleep, and she had a great tip for those who are having issues. Her number one non-negotiable rule:

Make sure your phone is charging somewhere away from your bed.

She said you must turn off all devices and, in fact, to avoid all temptation, you need to remove them from your bedroom altogether. I asked if the bathroom was OK and she said, "Put it far outside your room. If you're going to get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom and you think you're going to be tempted to look at it, then put it in another room further away."

Having your phone or iPad somewhere else while you're winding down to sleep or reading a book may make all the difference in your new healthy habit. Try it this week and see if it makes a difference.
