John Mayer has been hard at work, as promised, for the last few months on his upcoming album, Battle Studies. He's debuted new songs before, but last night he released what he says is his first single. The chorus includes the lyrics, "Who says I can't get stoned," and apparently he's performed it live a few times. So tell us what you think — love it or leave it?

Love.
1this will be a hit
2All of his music sounds the same - yawnfest 2009.
3While the 'stoned' lyric isn't my cup of tea, I love John Mayer and I love his music.
4Refreshingly mellow. I like it. If I want 'noise' I turn on pop radio. I can rest assured there will be no 'dry humping' in this video *I hope* so my kids can watch it. That'll make 3 videos this year that are decent.
5I love it.
Doesn't the beginning riff sound exactly like "Stop This Train"?
6Love it!
Heard him on Z100 -- he redeemed himself in my eyes!
7Lame. Also it's hilarious that he's basically saying "Who says screw around with tons of ladies and make no emotional attachments of any kind?" Typical John Mayer. Of course he's allowed to write something slight, something short on depth, but I'd rather his music not reflect the childish manwh*re persona he's cultivated.
8I am a big John Mayer fan, but this song has the same riff as Stop This Train for half the song. I'm sorry but you don't do that on a follow-up record. The lyrics are not anywhere near as compelling and deep as his other work. I am also not a fan of him trying to sound cool by talking about getting high. Needless to say, I am not impressed with this single. I hope that it is a joke.
95 -- wow. you being excited about a song discussing the legalization of pot smoking and casual sex just gives me great assurance of your fitness to parent.
10The song isn't about weed idiot.Read the lyrics.go to justjared.com .type in john Mayer for the search.click on the news of Mayer with the pic of the single for the song on it.
11i like this song but i think it's something that will grow on me and i'll come to REALLLY like
12While it DOES sound like the old John (which is a relief, I've missed that guy), the lyrics to 'Who Says' lacks the depth of his previous work, and like some of you said, I'd easily scratch out the getting stoned part, doesn't fit, not his usual style.
13Nevertheless, I love it. This guy knows what he's doing... as he always has had.
